Tonka Diecast Toys
If you were a (boy) kid growing up in the 1980′s you probably built a miniature empire with your Tonka diecast trucks, just like my brother and I did. We had the coolest bull dozer and a sweet dump truck. I remember sitting outside in the hot summer and filling the dump truck with dry, red Kentucky clay and pushing rocks inside the cab, some of wich never came back out! Those Tonka diecast toys were just the perfect size to be piloted by GI joe action figures. I know, from the hand me down toys we recieved at my grand parent’s house that my dad played with Tonka diecast toys as well as other brands when he was a kid. These things really last forever, what toy made in recent years has the kind of staying power that those old yellow trucks had. I remember my dad, in a fit of child inflicted rage, spiking a Tonka army jeep like a diecast foot ball. It survived, although it would be much harder for snake eyes to stear without the front wheels. I think it is hillarious that a kid’s first encounter with work is through a toy. My brother and I spent hours digging and building and smashing things with our Tonka diecast toys, and we loved it. I can just imagine the grown man some where in the world at the same time having much less fun than we were doing the same thing on a much larger scale. I wonder if he ever feels cheated by the Tonka diecast trucks that were used to assimilate hiim into the world of real work. At any rate I loved my Tonka diecast toys when I was little so much in fact that they are some of the only toys that still reside in my mother’s attic to this day.
