The Chevy Volt will be the first mass produced electric car by a major car company. There are several advantages to this car. For one it is not an all electric car. It also comes with a gasoline powered engine. However it does have an electric motor and as long as you keep recharging it, you will be able to keep driving it. If by any chance the battery runs out, then you can continue driving it with the gas engine. The fuel tank holds enough fuel to go 300 miles. There are 2 charging modes for the Volt. The normal mode takes 7-8 hours with a 120V outlet. However there is a 240V charger option which is capable of recharging the car in 2-3 hours. One of the biggest complaints surrounding the Volt is that it is too quiet. This complaint mainly comes from the blind community. Chevy is dealing with this problem by incorporating a low humming sound from the engine block.

The Nissan Leaf on the other hand is an all electric car. Even though Nissan is not known for making eco-cars, they have been working quietly on an electric car and it will be known as the Leaf. It will be around 20 inches longer than the Honda insight and 17 inches longer compared to the Toyota Prius. It will also be slightly wider and taller and seat 5 people. This means it will be relatively large for a small car. The Leaf will be able to travel 100 miles per charge and the top speed will be 90mph. The biggest plus point of this car is its recharge times. With a high voltage charging unit it will be able to recharge 80 percent of its capacity in 30 minutes. The price of the car will be between 33,000 and 25,000 dollars.
